Volga Federal District is an administrative region of Russia appeared by the decree of Russian President in May 13, 2000. The territory of the region is about 6,8% of total Russian territory. The population of the district is about 21,3% of total population of Russia. The administrative center of Volga Federal District is Nizhny Novgorod city.

Volga Federal District has the population of 30,241,000 (2009) on the territory of 1,038,000 sq. km.
