Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery, situated on the shore of Lake Siverskoye in the town of Kirillov of the Vologda region, is the largest monastery in ​​Europe.

Tikhvin Assumption Monastery

The Marian Tikhvin Assumption Monastery is an Orthodox monastery located in the town of Tikhvin in the Leningrad region, about 220 kilometers east of St. Petersburg.

Holy Assumption Monastery in Staritsa

Staritsky Holy Assumption Monastery is an Orthodox monastery located in the town of Staritsa, on the right bank of the Volga River, in the Tver region.

The ensemble of the monastery is one of the most important and interesting architectural complexes in the region. This is one of the oldest monasteries in Russia, officially founded in the first half of the 16th century, although the first monks came here from Kiev-Pechersk Lavra in 1110.

New Jerusalem Monastery in Istra

Nilov Monastery on Lake Seliger

Nilov Monastery is an Orthodox monastery located on Stolobny Island and partly on Svetlitsa Peninsula, 10 km north of the town of Ostashkov, on Lake Seliger in the Tver region.

The monastery was named after Reverend Nilus Stolobensky born at the end of the 15th century. The magnificent monastery complex that you can see today was erected in the 18th-19th centuries. Kronstadt Naval Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Saint Petersburg was built on the project of the outstanding Russian architect V.A. Kosyakov as the main church of the Russian Navy in 1903-1913. On the memorial plaques installed inside the church, you can see the names of sailors who died in the line of duty.

Originally, the cathedral had richly decorated exterior and interior. In Soviet times, it was closed (1929) and was used as a movie theater, and later – as a club. Unfortunately, almost all historical decoration was lost.
