Gothic Cathedral in Kaliningrad

The Cathedral Church in Kaliningrad (former Koenigsberg) is an inactive cathedral located in the historical district of the city – Kneiphof island (also known among locals as the “Island of Kant”).

Kaliningrad – the view from above

Kaliningrad oblast is the westernmost region of Russia separated from the main territory of the country and surrounded by Poland and Lithuania.

Amber Museum in Kaliningrad

Russia’s only amber museum is located in the defensive tower “Der Dona” in Kaliningrad (Marshal Vasilevsky Square, 1).

Endangered Barracks of Konigsberg

As a result of the Second World War, the northern part of the German province of East Prussia, with its capital Konigsberg, was given to the Soviet Union. The region received name Kaliningrad oblast, the city was renamed Kaliningrad.

The authorities didn’t pay any attention to the heritage of German culture. Old Town was not restored, the castle ruins were demolished in the late 1960s.
