Winter Baikal – the realm of great ice and mighty winds

Lake Baikal has many names in Russia: “The Holy Sea”, “The Great Lake”, “The Pearl of Siberia”, etc. But you can’t pick up a few words to reveal the essence of this unique creation of nature, this amazing corner of the Earth.
Baikal is the deepest lake in the world (1642 meters) and the largest reservoir of fresh water (more than 23,000 cubic km., or about 20% of world reserves).

Yoshkar-Ola is a city in Russia, the capital of Mari El Republic, with a population of about 260,000 people. The city was founded in 1584 as a military fort in the center of the Volga-Vyatka region, on the banks of the river Malaya Kokshaga.
Present day Yoshkar-Ola is one of the cultural centers of the Finno-Ugric peoples. Cultural heritage of the city reflects different historical periods of formation of Yoshkar-Ola.

The Weathering Pillars – Natural Wonder of Russia

The Weathering Pillars is a geological monument, located in the Troitsko-Pechorsky region of Komi Republic in the territory of the Pechora-Ilych Nature Reserve on Mount Man-Pupu-Ner (on Mansi people language it means “Little Mountain of Idols”). The pillars height varies from 30 to 42 meters.
About 200 million years ago, there were high mountains in this area. Gradually, frost and sun, snow and wind destroyed them leaving these amazing objects. The Weathering Pillars location on Google Maps. Photos by aventure

Natural Park Ergaki – a real pearl of Siberia

Ergaki is a natural park and tourist center of Ergak-Targak-Taiga ridge located in the Western Sayan to the south-east of Abakan city, the capital of Khakassia Republic.
This area is a miracle of nature and a real pearl of Siberia, along with Baikal Lake and Altai. This place is a “dreamland” lost in Sayan mountain range. Nowadays, Ergaki is one of the symbols of Russian nature. Photos by Andrey Grachev

Church of the Savior on Blood

Church of the Savior on Blood in St. Petersburg was built in 1883-1907 to commemorate the fact that at this place, in 1881, as a result of the assassination, the Emperor Alexander II was mortally wounded. Height of the church is 81 meters.
It was built as a memorial to Alexander II of the money raised throughout Russia. This beautiful church, museum and architectural monument, is located in the historic center of St. Petersburg on the bank of the Griboyedov Canal near Mikhailovsky Garden. Photos by deletant

Architecture of Barnaul city

Barnaul is the administrative center of Altai krai. This city, founded in 1730s, is located in the south of Western Siberia at the confluence of the Barnaulka and the Ob rivers.
