Giant sinkhole found near Solikamsk in Perm region

November 18, 2014, the mine Solikamsk-2, owned by a Russian company “Uralkali”, was partially flooded. All the miners were safely evacuated, and the work was suspended. The mine is located near the town of Solikamsk in Perm region.
After some time, 3.5 km from the mine, on the territory occupied by garden plots of Solikamsk residents, a giant sinkhole (30×40 meters) was found. Risks of expansion of the sinkhole and its danger to the city are still not fully understood.

The Chechen Republic is located in the North Caucasus, in the valleys of the rivers Terek and Sunzha.
The northern part of the republic is the steppes and semi-deserts (Tersko-Kumskaya lowland), the central part – the forest-steppe plains (Chechen plain), the southern part – the Caucasus Mountains.

Abandoned Base of Murmansk Marine Biological Institute

Dalniye Zelentsy village is standing on the shore of a small bay (Oscar Bay) of the Barents Sea in Kolsky district of Murmansk region.
In 1935, Murmansk Biological Station was opened in this place. In 1958, it was reorganized in Murmansk Marine Biological Institute. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, almost all people left this place.

The beauty of the mountainous Adygea

Adygea is a republic within the Russian Federation, a part of the Southern Federal District. The territory of the republic is entirely surrounded by another region of Russia – Krasnodar krai.
The mountainous part of Adygea is included in the UNESCO list of World Natural Heritage. There are plenty of waterfalls, caves, rocks for climbing, gorges, canyons, rivers, alpine meadows, pine and fir forests.

Just an attempt to hijack a train in Moscow region

October 22, at 03:32 in the morning, an unknown person entered the territory of the train depot Lobnya (about 15 km from Moscow), climbed into the cabin of one of the trains, started the engine and escaped.

Lake Baikal is the deepest lake in the world located in eastern Siberia (on the territory of the Republic of Buryatia and Irkutsk region). It is the largest reservoir of fresh water on our planet.

Early morning at the Staritskiy Holy Dormition Monastery

The Staritskiy Holy Dormition Monastery is an Orthodox Monastery located in the town of Staritsa in Tver region.
The monastery was founded in the first half of the 16th century. In 1919, the monastery was closed, and, in 1930, the wall with corner towers, that surrounded the monastery, was demolished. By 2013, the monastery was restored in its original form. Photo by Ilya Melikhov

South Kamchatka Reserve, located in the south of the Kamchatka Peninsula, is a part of the Kronotsky Nature Reserve.
According to the author of these photos Igor Shpilenok: “Kamchatka is the most bearish place in Russia. And South Kamchatka Reserve is the most bearish place of Kamchatka.” It’s easy to believe in it looking at these beautiful pictures.
