Russian news, notes and thoughts

May, 2014 / RSS notes

23 May, 2014  // Under the agreement valued at $ 400 billion, Russia will supply China with 38 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year for 30 years. It is clear that this is a political project rather than concern about improving the welfare of the citizens of Russia.

15 May, 2014  // To send more money on infrastructure of the Crimea, two projects will be canceled: a bridge across the Lena River in Siberia and the cargo terminal in "Taman" port in Krasnodar krai (about 3.2 billion USD). Unfortunately, few people in the country think about the price Russia will pay for the annexation of the Crimea.

9 May, 2014  // Today, Russia celebrates Victory Day in the Second World War. In honor of this memorable date, military parades have been held in many cities across the country. The main parade has been held on Red Square in Moscow.

4 May, 2014  // According to Freedom House report, press freedom in the world continues to fall. Today, it is at the lowest level in the last decade. Russia ranks 176 out of 197 countries for press freedom, really already not too far from North Korea, which traditionally occupies the last place.
