Currently this place is known as the All-Russian Exhibition Centre – exhibition complex in the northeast region of Moscow, the second largest exhibition center in Moscow. In Soviet times, this complex was known as the Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy of the USSR.

Since 1967, the latest models of Soviet space technology were exhibited in a special pavilion “Space”. It was the pride of Soviet science and technology. The Soviet Union was spending most of its budget on various military purposes, sometimes creating projects with incredible technical characteristics.

In 1987, ekranoplan (ground effect aircraft) “Lun” was constructed – the first aircraft of the series of military missile-carrying ekranoplans weighing 400 tons.

It was armed with three pairs of cruise missiles. Volley of four such missiles is enough to destroy any ship, including the aircraft carrier.

Nowadays, in Russia, bears are not only roaming the streets, but also float on the rivers. And this is not just brown bears, but polar ones! Here’s a picture of today that can be seen in Moscow.

A lone polar bear on a small block of ice was floating on the Moscow River in the morning. Rescue officers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations responded on his desperate plea for help.

Tourism in Russia is a relatively small, but growing industry. The rich cultural heritage and natural diversity of places put Russia in a prominent place among the countries with the potential growth of tourism.

There are 24 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Russia. Different regions and ethnic groups have a wide variety of traditions. From 1995 to 2011, foreign tourism to Russia increased by 27%. The number of foreign tourists increased from 1.8 to 2.3 million per year.

Baikal is a lake of tectonic origin in the southern part of Eastern Siberia, the deepest lake in the world, the largest natural reservoir of fresh water (23615.39 cubic km which is about 19% of the world’s fresh water reserves in lakes). Local residents usually call it the Baikal Sea.

Lake Baikal is located in the center of the Asian continent on the border of the Irkutsk region and the Republic of Buryatia. The lake stretches from north-east to south-west by 620 km in the form of a giant crescent. Baikal width ranges from 24 to 79 km.

Architectural and Ethnographic Museum of the Vologda region “Semyonkovo” invites you into the world of the Russian village of the late 19th – the early 20th centuries. Here you can learn more about the traditions, cultural background, and mentality of the Russian people.

Aluminum appeared in our lives only about century and a half ago, but in that short time it managed to go from being a decorative metal to the material, which allows us to move faster, to live in warmth and comfort, and enjoy all the benefits of modern civilization.

At the moment, the leader of the global aluminum industry is the Russian company RUSAL which accounts for about 12.5% of global production of aluminum that ensures the production facilities to produce 3.9 million tons of aluminum per year. “One cowboy, two cowboy” is a Soviet animated film released in 1981. Director: Anatoliy Reznikov. Screenwriter: Arkadiy Khait.

The main characters are a cowboy and his cow. It is one of the classic Soviet cartoons. Almost all children in the Soviet Union saw it.

Soviet moviegoer in the 1920ies, during the NEP (the New Economic Policy), was able to watch a lot of not only Soviet, but also foreign films. As a rule, it was purely entertaining films, ideological films were not the biggest part of all the films, as it became later.

The movie posters of these years are of great interest. It was a continuous celebration of avant-gardism, endless experiment with colors, shapes, images. This flashy language of bright colors was coming into collision with the black-and-white world of the silver screen. Pictures by visualhistory
