Pereslavl-Zalessky is a small town with a population of about 40 thousand people in Yaroslavl region of Russia.

The Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius is the largest Orthodox Monastery in Russia, located in the center of Sergiev Posad in Moscow region.

Abandoned nuclear heating plant in Nizhny Novgorod

Gorky nuclear heating plant is an unfinished station for the production of thermal energy for heating Nagorny district of Nizhny Novgorod (former Gorky). Construction of the station was carried out in the 1980s, a few kilometers east of the city limits.
By the end of the 1980s, the station was finished by 85%, but due to public outcry and a growing budget deficit, the completion of construction of the station in the post-Chernobyl period was impossible, and the station was abandoned. Photos by Lana Sator

The Dormition Cathedral in Vladimir

The Dormition (Uspenskiy) Cathedral in Vladimir is an outstanding monument of white-stone architecture of pre-Mongol Russia (the 12th century). Today, it is the cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church and the National Museum.
Historically, before the rise of Moscow, it was the main cathedral of Vladimir-Suzdal Russia. This cathedral is one of the few temples with preserved frescoes of Andrei Rublev. In 1992, the Dormition Cathedral was included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage. Photos by Petr Ushanov

Giant sinkhole found near Solikamsk in Perm region

November 18, 2014, the mine Solikamsk-2, owned by a Russian company “Uralkali”, was partially flooded. All the miners were safely evacuated, and the work was suspended. The mine is located near the town of Solikamsk in Perm region.
After some time, 3.5 km from the mine, on the territory occupied by garden plots of Solikamsk residents, a giant sinkhole (30×40 meters) was found. Risks of expansion of the sinkhole and its danger to the city are still not fully understood.

The Chechen Republic is located in the North Caucasus, in the valleys of the rivers Terek and Sunzha.
The northern part of the republic is the steppes and semi-deserts (Tersko-Kumskaya lowland), the central part – the forest-steppe plains (Chechen plain), the southern part – the Caucasus Mountains.

Abandoned Base of Murmansk Marine Biological Institute

Dalniye Zelentsy village is standing on the shore of a small bay (Oscar Bay) of the Barents Sea in Kolsky district of Murmansk region.
In 1935, Murmansk Biological Station was opened in this place. In 1958, it was reorganized in Murmansk Marine Biological Institute. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, almost all people left this place.
