Amazing Church of the Transfiguration in Krasnoye in Tver Oblast

The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord (1790) is an architectural monument of federal significance located in the village of Krasnoye in the central part of Tver Oblast of Russia. This picturesque church built in a pseudo-Gothic style is an almost exact copy of the Chesme Church in St. Petersburg (1780).
The height of the building is 24 meters, length and width are about 20 m. This red church looks especially unusual in winter against the backdrop of farmhouses and barns.

Rzhev Memorial to the Soviet Soldier

On June 30, 2020, about 7 km south-west of the city of Rzhev and 200 km north-west of Moscow, the Rzhev Memorial to the Soviet Soldier was opened. It was installed in the place where the Battle of Rzhev took place from January 5, 1942 to March 21, 1943 – one of the bloodiest battles of the Second World War.

The Oldest Monastery in the Tver Region

The Borisoglebsky Monastery in Torzhok, a town located 63 km north-west of Tver, is considered the oldest monastery in the Tver region.

Krasnoye is a village with a population of about 400 people located in the Staritsky district of the Tver region, 100 km south-west of Tver.

Torzhok, founded at the turn of the 10th-11th centuries, is a town with a population of about 46 thousand people located in the Tver region, 65 km north-west of Tver.

Museum of Wooden Architecture Vasilevo

Vasilevo open-air architectural and ethnographic museum is located in the village of Vasilevo in the Tver region, 76 km north-west of Tver.

Nilova Pustyn – a monastery in the middle of the lake

Nilo-Stolbenskaya Pustyn (Nilova Pustyn) is an Orthodox monastery located on Stolbnoy Island on Lake Seliger, 10 km north of the town of Ostashkov in the Tver region. The distance from Ostashkov to the monastery by road is about 25 km.
Founded in 1594, it was one of the largest and wealthiest monasteries in the Russian Empire. At the end of the 1980s, a significant part of the buildings were either lost or in a dilapidated state.

Staritsa, founded in 1297, is a small town with a population of about 8,000 people located in the Tver region, 65 km south-west of Tver. There are several churches and estates in the town and its surroundings.

Transfiguration Church in Krasnoye village

Krasnoye (meaning “red”) is a village with a population of about 400 people located in Staritsa district of the Tver region, 20 kilometers north-west of the town of Staritsa.
In the second half of the 18th century, M.F. Poltoratsky, the owner of the manor in Krasnoye, decided to replace the old wooden church and built a new one.
