Once again, on one of the military training grounds in Russia, this time located in Samara region, the shells exploded. The explosions at the test site near the town of Chapaevsk began on Tuesday evening. About 6,500 people were evacuated from the nearby Nagorny village to Chapaevsk.

Explosions rocked during disposing of ammunition. The total number of shells stored at the site was about 13 million. According to recent reports, one person died and 34 were injured in the blasts, because the explosions also hit the nearby highway.

Unique view from the pylon of the Russky Bridge

The Russky (Russian) Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge located in Vladivostok. The bridge connects Nazimov Peninsula and Novosilsky Cape on the Russky Island.

Construction of the bridge started September 3, 2008 as part of the city’s preparations for the APEC summit in 2012. The bridge has the world’s largest span among cable-stayed bridges (1104 meters), and the highest pylons – 324 meters.

A few days ago, in Perm, the festival of arts “White Nights” started. An exhibition of Krasnoyarsk artist Vasily Slonov “Welcome! Sochi 2014” was one of the participants of the festival. A couple of days later, it was closed by the local authorities.

Officials found the exhibition Russophobian and defaming the Olympics in Sochi, said the organizer of the festival Marat Gelman. However, he said, the exhibition will be reopened in the independent cultural center “Rechnik” today.

Summer snowfall in Kemerovo

Today in St. Petersburg organizers of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2014 in Sochi have presented the medals, which will be awarded to winners of competitions.

The main theme in the design of medals is a patch-work quilt that will be the main symbol of the Sochi Games. The quilt symbolizes the “diversity of cultural traditions of people living in Russia.”

Surgut GRES-2 is the largest thermoelectric power plant in Russia. The station is located in the city of Surgut (Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District). As of 2012, it is one of the largest thermoelectric power plants in the world in the annual generation and the largest producer of electricity in Russia.

The installed electric capacity is 5,597.1 MW, installed thermal capacity – 840 Gcal/h. The station is working on associated petroleum gas (70%) and natural gas (30%). The height of the pipes is 273 meters. Photos by Vadim Makhorov
