Lake Baikal is the deepest lake in the world located in eastern Siberia (on the territory of the Republic of Buryatia and Irkutsk region). It is the largest reservoir of fresh water on our planet.

The Staritskiy Holy Dormition Monastery is an Orthodox Monastery located in the town of Staritsa in Tver region.
The monastery was founded in the first half of the 16th century. In 1919, the monastery was closed, and, in 1930, the wall with corner towers, that surrounded the monastery, was demolished. By 2013, the monastery was restored in its original form. Photo by Ilya Melikhov

South Kamchatka Reserve, located in the south of the Kamchatka Peninsula, is a part of the Kronotsky Nature Reserve.
According to the author of these photos Igor Shpilenok: “Kamchatka is the most bearish place in Russia. And South Kamchatka Reserve is the most bearish place of Kamchatka.” It’s easy to believe in it looking at these beautiful pictures.

This city, founded in 1740, is located in the southeastern part of the Kamchatka Peninsula on the shores of the Avachinskaya Bay of the Pacific Ocean. Kul-Sharif Mosque – one of the main sights of Kazan

Kul Sharif Mosque is standing on the territory of the Kazan Kremlin. It is the main mosque of the Republic of Tatarstan and Kazan.
Construction of the mosque began in 1996. It was a re-creation of the legendary mosque of the capital of the Kazan Khanate that was destroyed during the storming of Kazan by the troops of Ivan the Terrible in October 1552.

Staraya Ladoga – the ancient capital of Northern Russia

Today, Staraya Ladoga (until 1703 – Ladoga) is a small village (population about 2,000) located in the Volkhov municipal district of the Leningrad region of Russia. But prior to 1703, Ladoga had a status of a town.
In 2003, the 1250th anniversary of Staraya Ladoga was celebrated and the village was called “the ancient capital of Northern Russia.”

The cruiser “Aurora” has gone for repairs

This morning four tugs have taken the cruiser “Aurora” (a famous museum ship in Saint Petersburg) to Kronstadt for dock repairs.
During the repair, the historical parts of the hull and machinery of the ship will be fully preserved. The cruiser will return to the historic berth in 2016. Photos by Mikhail Roskin published in drugoi

The variety of landscapes of Kamchatka

Kamchatka is a peninsula located in the north-eastern part of Eurasia in Russia. It stretches from north-east to south-west for 1200 km.
In general, the landscapes and nature of Kamchatka are very similar to the open spaces of southern Siberia, the main difference – volcanoes. And another big difference is climate.
