3 Creature Comforts While You’re Visiting Russia

If you’re visiting Russia for the first time, I envy you! You’re about to go on one of the best adventures of your life. There’s so much culture to be experienced, as well as historical sights, fun activities, and unbeatable nightlife.

Of course, visiting a new country is also intimidating, and Russia has a reputation that might make you slightly wary. The Russian people are hardened, in a good way. They don’t suffer fools, and live in an admirably self-sufficient manner. For those who don’t know any Russians, however, this can come across as cold or rude.

Also, the weather in Russia can be somewhat intimidating. If you’re coming from Canada, you won’t have a problem, but if you’re coming from the Philippines, you’ll feel very differently.

While you’re bound to fall in love with the country and its people, you’ll need some creature comforts along the way.

Here are 3 things that will make your visit more comfortable.

1. Watch your native television series

Television, for better or worse, is one of those things many of us need to feel settled. Even if it’s just half an hour a day, or every second day, some of us are comforted by its presence. Which is why when you’re in a country with a different official language, you can be thrown out of sorts.

Try watching your own native television series to feel more comfortable. If you don’t know how to use VPN to watch US Netflix, I suggest you find out before you make the trip!

2. Visit a coffee shop

Coffee shops are very unassuming places. They’re quiet, serve a limited menu, and don’t make it into many top 10 lists. However, they’re also one of the best ways to get to know another country. Why? For the following 2 reasons:

  • they’re familiar, but
  • they’re packed with people who live in the area

In other words, you know how a coffee shop works. It’s easy to feel comfortable there. At the same time, you get to watch people from Russia and get a feel for the culture. Some of your most interesting interactions can happen there. Do not underestimate the simple coffee shop!

3. Visit a museum

A museum serves a similar purpose. It is something familiar. Every country has its museums. And yet, it showcases what is quintessentially Russian, whether Russian history or modern Russian art.

If you feel like you need a timeout during your visit to Russia, this is an excellent way to unwind without feeling like you’re wasting your time. You will learn a lot about the country and its people, and leave with a new appreciation and familiarity.

There’s no doubt you’ll love your time in Russia. Just make sure to let yourself unwind with some creature comforts once in awhile!
