Futuristic Soviet Assault Rifles

During the Soviet era, a lot of different and sometimes strange small arms were created. Nowadays, something is used worldwide, for example, Kalashnikov assault rifles. But some interesting firearms were almost forgotten.

Herman A. Korobov was one of the talented Soviet designers of small arms. Along with a number of other firearms, he was the author of these unique futuristic assault rifles created in the late 1950s – early 1960s.

The period from 1853 to 1917 was the most interesting period in the development of the Russian Navy. After the Crimean War of 1853-1855, steam Navy began to develop rapidly. By the end of the 1850s, the Russian fleet started to operate in the oceans.

During the second half of the 19th century, the Russian Empire created a modern for that time armored fleet. In the early 20th century, the country had the third largest fleet in the world. On these photos made in this period you can see the battleships of this once mighty fleet.

Victory Day, May 9, is widely celebrated in Russia, military parades are held in many cities. The main military parade takes place in Moscow on Red Square involving military units representing various kinds of troops and military equipment , warplanes and helicopters.

This year, several military vehicles had cameras allowing us to see the parade as it is seen by the participants. In the video presented below, you can see the highlights of one of the main rehearsals. Quite interesting high definition shots taken from unusual angles. Unfortunately there is some audio interference in the video, but it is still worth watching.

The Soviet Union was spending most of its budget on various military purposes, sometimes creating projects with incredible technical characteristics.

In 1987, ekranoplan (ground effect aircraft) “Lun” was constructed – the first aircraft of the series of military missile-carrying ekranoplans weighing 400 tons.

It was armed with three pairs of cruise missiles. Volley of four such missiles is enough to destroy any ship, including the aircraft carrier.
