    Horrible! Disastrous!

Such a wonderful architecture. Used to be “The Pearl of Europe”. Homeland of Immanual Kant. Cultural heritage of centuries.

I just wonder why is it so that anything the rooshuns lay their hands onto turns into shi*t.

It didnt “turn into sh!t but rather was Sh@t upon. Most of the elimination of the German presence in East Prussia was as a result of deliberate action on the part of the Soviets from ’45 thru ’49.

these pictures really really upset me as well. But probably you don’t know what Nazis did to the royal mansions around St. Petersburg (Leningrad back then) and how much effort it took to revive totally devastated palaces which looked like these pictures.
I hate bolsheviks though. Believe me with their ugly urban planning ideas they destroyed not only German but also many Russian cities :\

My wife was born in Koenigsberg in 1927 and fled the Red Army in 1944. After the collapse of the S.U. in 1990 I took her on a bus tour of Kaliningrad Oblask. When she saw the ruins remaining after 45 years total neglect under the communist regime she burst into tears.
One must be fair and say that the new generation of Russians have done much rebuilding and restoration work in Kaliningrad city during the past ten years. Kaliningrad province sadly has degenerated to being the poor house of Europe.

I’m italian and I know the awful destiny of this region. This ruins and their history are quite unknow in Europe, why nobody cares about the prussian and teutonic heritage? This question isn’t having nothing to do with german claims (I’m italian) nor political reviosionism (I’m not a nazi) but it is related to love for history and architecture. Russians you must save these architectural tresures! Do it for yourself and for all europeans like you! You will be remembered as rescuers and caretakers certainly not as barbarians.

    It’s a shame, true shame.
What a destruction and neglect with no respect to the heritage and culture of all civilised people, regardless the nationality.
Perhaps those russian barbarians should go and see how old prussian cities like Breslau or Danzig were beautifully restored in Poland after criminal devastation laid upon them by russians during WWII.

    Roma 12 aprile.

You are right and You are not at the same time. Gdansk (Danzig) belonged to Polish state shortly in XIV century, later in the period 1466-1793 and since 1945 till today. Generalising majority of its inhabitants belonged to german culture (language, customs, trade) for centuries but it were those german merchants who opposed Teutonic Order Knights, revolted against them and asked polish king Kazimierz Jagiellończyk for protection. They also took great part in financing the polish war against german teutonic order. It is also worth mentioning, that those “german” citizens demolished teutonic order`s castle right away after the outburst of fights.
German citizens of Gdansk for centuires were loyal to the polish state, opposing Frederic II of Prussia between first and second partition of Poland….

In fact, this disaster can not written off as a commies regime actions. This is smth about nations character. Remanants of this beutifull heritage 20 years after ussr fall still ar raped either with direct destruction, either with russian untidiness or either with extremely ugly and clumsy today architecture. Sometimes they try to simulate smt like restauration or historical Konig style but the outcome always is ugly like everything in Russia.

Even Polish ( which seems to be most tasteless european nation) approach to the historic heritage in neighbouring areas is as least 20 times better.

This should be tragic feeling to realize that only talent of your nation is turn everything in shit. And then keep looking for another place to shit.

Would be nice if Russian Prussia (together with Polish Prussia and Lithuanian Prussia) would form something like a “Baltic Switzerland”. That would be great.
