The private fairy-tale park-courtyard “Vikhlyandiya” in the town of Kozelsk, Kaluga Oblast, is a unique architectural work of art, born of a creative tandem of the local entrepreneur-philanthropist Vladimir Vikhlyandtsev (whose last name gave the name to the complex) and the architect-artist Vladimir Kolesnikov.
There are no analogues of such a fabulous complex anywhere else in Russia. This fairy-tale kingdom has already become one of the sights of Kozelsk. Vikhlyandiya is especially popular among families with children. Vikhlyandiya on Google Maps. Photos by: Vladimir Lipetskikh.
The construction of Vikhlyandiya began in 2010. Although Vladimir Vikhlyandtsev didn’t even think about any such complex project at that time. The entrepreneur was only planning to build an unusual gazebo with a barbecue and was looking for people to implement his idea. And at this very time, Vladimir Kolesnikov was working on creating figures of fairy-tale characters from cement in the Three Bogatyrs children’s park in Kozelsk.
All the sculptures and buildings in Vikhlyandiya are created from art concrete using special facade acrylic paints. Kolesnikov’s daughter Elena, who has been working with her father since the age of 15, is responsible for the artistic painting of the sculptures. In total, Vladimir Kolesnikov has more than 1,000 fabulous sculptures and structures to his name.
