Novosibirsk Akademgorodok – the scientific center of Siberia

Akademgorodok (literally “the town of academicians”), founded in 1957, is located about 20 kilometers south of the center of Novosibirsk, on the right bank of the Novosibirsk reservoir.
It is one of the most important scientific and educational centers in Russia. On its territory there are dozens of research institutes, the Presidium of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Novosibirsk State University, and a physics and mathematics school. Novosibirsk hit by a heavy hailstorm

July 12, 2014, Novosibirsk, the third largest city in Russia and the capital city of Siberia, encountered an unexpected whim of nature.
After one of the hottest days of the year, when the temperature reached 37 degrees Celsius above zero, the city was suddenly hit by a heavy hailstorm. Unique footage of this hailstorm was captured on the city beach.

The largest theater building in Russia

Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater is the largest theater of Novosibirsk and Siberia. The theater building, located on the main square of Novosibirsk is Russia’s largest theater building.
Because of its large size the theater is called “Siberian Coliseum”. The theater building is the pride and symbol of Novosibirsk. Today about 900 people are working there. Photos by Stepanov Slava.

Novosibirsk is the third city of Russia by population after Moscow and St. Petersburg. The city is business, cultural, industrial, scientific, trade and transport center of Siberia.
Novosibirsk was founded in 1893. The population of the city reached one million in 1962 making it the world youngest city with such a large population.
