Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric power station is located in Khakassia Republic on the Yenisei river. The plant is the largest in Russia and #6 largest in the world.

Almost a year ago (August 17, 2009) an accident happened at the station that caused flooding of the engine and turbine rooms, 74 people died. Here are the photos of the station captured this month (June 2010) by Misha Maklakov showing the process of station rebuilding and reconstruction. All the photos are clickable.

The following mansion was constructed in Samara city on the bank of Volga river in 1908-1909 by the local merchant K.P.Golovkin.  The whole idea of the project and all the details belong to the merchant himself. The weathering pillars is a unique geological monument located on the plateau of Man’-Pupu-Ner in Troitsko-Pechorsky district of Komi Republic of Russia. The geological monument is the composition of seven pillars with the height of 30 to 42 meters.

The pillars appeared as the result of ancient mountains erosion. There are numerous legends about the pillars among the local people. The weathering pillars geological monument is one of the winners of Seven Wonders of Russia contest.
