The views of classical Russian village

The following village is looking like thousands of other similar villages located in almost all regions of Russia. Unfortunately as the process of urbanization continues numerous of such villages are becoming abandoned or will be abandoned next years.

This village called Shapsha is located in Khanty-Mansi autonomous okrug, near Khanty-Mansiysk city. As the village is located close to the large city it is still inhabited but the wooden buildings of the past are not in good shape and probably will be lost. The pictures were captured by Padunskiy (all the photos are clickable).

Kubinka armored forces museum photos

The museum of armored forces in Kubinka (Moskovskaya oblast, about 63 km to the west of Moscow city) is one of the largest in Russia and has the unique collection of war machines. The photos were captured by k_kronos.

Abandoned Russian airbase photos

There are a lot of abandoned military objects on the territory of Russia and other Former Soviet Union countries, but most of them are looted by local people. And here are the sceneries of the former airbase that remained almost intact. The photos were captured by netwind.

Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric power station is located in Khakassia Republic on the Yenisei river. The plant is the largest in Russia and #6 largest in the world.

Almost a year ago (August 17, 2009) an accident happened at the station that caused flooding of the engine and turbine rooms, 74 people died. Here are the photos of the station captured this month (June 2010) by Misha Maklakov showing the process of station rebuilding and reconstruction. All the photos are clickable.

The picturesque views of Russian dacha

A lot of urban families in Russia have so called dachas – the small parcels of personal land located near the city.

Dachas are the places of resting and growing some vegetables, berries, fruits. And here are the picturesque pictures captured at one of such dachas. All the photos are clickable.

The following mansion was constructed in Samara city on the bank of Volga river in 1908-1909 by the local merchant K.P.Golovkin.  The whole idea of the project and all the details belong to the merchant himself. Today the place is also known as “The mansion with elephants”. The photos were captured by golema.

Tutaev is a small town with the population of about 40,000 located in Yaroslavl oblast of Russia. The settlement was first time mentioned in the year of 1370. Today the town is the part of famous Golden Ring of Russia and is known as the “Volga River gem”. The photos were captured by Maxim Yashin.
