Toy-like Russia – Part 1

Russia is the largest country in the world in terms of land area and length. The distance from Kaliningrad to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is about 7500 km, the time difference – 10 hours.
But if you go up in the air, big cities, endless fields, high mountains, powerful plants all of a sudden become like toys. The photos were taken by Stepanov Slava.

The Ministry of Economic Development of Russia has revised its growth forecast of the Russian economy in 2015. Deterioration in the forecast is related to the sanctions because of the events in Ukraine and geopolitical tensions.
Overall, the new picture of development of the country in the next year corresponds to a recent estimate made by the head of the Ministry Alexei Ulyukayev said that Russia is balancing between stagnation and recession.

The largest miniature of Russia

Even sleeping areas of St. Petersburg may surprise you. Among the usual residential buildings of Moscow district there is a unique museum project – the largest miniature of Russia (total area is about 800 square meters).
Miniature is a collective image of Russia, which has absorbed all of its most characteristic features, and objects. You will be able to find the Moscow Kremlin, Karelian Kizhi, Peter and Paul Fortress, and other sights of Russia here.

Key facts about the sale of Alaska

The sale of Alaska was a deal between the governments of the Russian Empire and the North American United States. In 1867, Russia for 7.2 million USD (about 108 million USD in 2009), sold its territories in North America (total area 1,518,800 square km or 586,412 square miles).
At the time of the sale the entire population in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands was about 2,500 Russian and approximately 60,000 American Indians and Eskimos. At the beginning of the 19th century Alaska brought income from the fur trade.

The sceneries of disappearing Russian village

In addition to the recent post about Classical Russian village views here are the sceneries of life of another disappearing Russian village.
The village is called Zenkovo and is located in Khanty-Mansi autonomous okrug (region). The pictures were captured by padunskiy (all the photos are clickable).

The views of classical Russian village

The following village is looking like thousands of other similar villages located in almost all regions of Russia. Unfortunately as the process of urbanization continues numerous of such villages are becoming abandoned or will be abandoned next years.
This village called Shapsha is located in Khanty-Mansi autonomous okrug, near Khanty-Mansiysk city. As the village is located close to the large city it is still inhabited but the wooden buildings of the past are not in good shape and probably will be lost. The pictures were captured by Padunskiy (all the photos are clickable).

A lot of urban families in Russia have so called dachas – the small parcels of personal land located near the city.
