Today in St. Petersburg organizers of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2014 in Sochi have presented the medals, which will be awarded to winners of competitions.

The main theme in the design of medals is a patch-work quilt that will be the main symbol of the Sochi Games. The quilt symbolizes the “diversity of cultural traditions of people living in Russia.”

Here are some interesting facts about the medals of Sochi 2014 Games. It takes about 18 hours to make each medal. In total, there will be 98 sets of medals in 15 sports.

Three kilograms of 999-carat gold will be sprayed on the gold medals. The medals for the Paralympics will have inscriptions in Braille.
