Kalacheevskaya Cave, a unique structure built in the chalk hill, is located on the right bank of the Tolucheevka River (the left tributary of the Don River), in the town of Kalach, Voronezh oblast.
It is the longest cave in the region. The total length of the cave is about 1 km. The cave was probably created in the 18th-19th centuries, it was used as an underground monastery. Photos by: vmulder.

The cave is a complex maze that has two levels. The most amazing place in the cave is an underground temple found in the southern part.
On the walls, you can see interesting drawings with early Christian symbols: palm branches, various forms of crosses. Also, all the walls are densely covered with inscriptions of people who visited the cave for decades.
Today, Kalacheevskaya Cave is being gradually destroyed by natural and anthropogenic factors.
