Today Izborsk (also known as Old Izborsk) is a village located in Pechorsky district of Pskovskaya oblast. But the settlement of Izborsk is also one of the most ancient Russian towns mentioned together with Smolensk and Polotsk towns.

Izborsk is located about 30 km to the west of Pskov city. Main attraction of the place is a fortress constructed in the 14th century. The photos were captured by John Sinterson (all the pictures are clickable).

The flooded church of Vologda oblast photos

The following church built in 1790 is located in the former village of Krokhino (Vologda oblast) flooded in the beginning of 1960th with the construction of Volga-Baltic Canal.

The church was standing on the upland and survived the flooding but was abandoned. And here are the views of the present state of the church by shtish. The last picture is the photo of the church captured in the year of 1910.

Dzerzhinsk is the second largest city of Nizhegorodskaya oblast of Russia located about 30 km to the west of Nizhny Novgorod city. The city was named after Soviet revolutionary leader Feliks Dzerzhinsky in 1929.
