The Dolgiye Mountains – One of the Most Beautiful Places in Orenburg Oblast
No comments · Posted by Sergei Rzhevsky in Nature, Regions, Travel
The Dolgiye Mountains is one of the southern spurs of the Ural Mountains, stretching 14 km from north to south from the Ural River to the Sakmara River, on the 135th km of the Orenburg – Orsk highway.
The mountains are not high, but for the surrounding steppe terrain they look quite impressive and from a height they look like the backbone of a huge dragon. The Dolgiye Mountains on Google Maps. Photos by: Slava Stepanov.
The Ural Mountains are among the oldest in the world. The Dolgiye Mountains were formed about 250-300 million years ago. The maximum height of the ridge is 414 meters above sea level, and the height difference is small – 150-200 meters.
The slopes of the Dolgiye Mountains are very gentle, so you don’t need any special equipment to get to the top. There are no trees on the slopes – only steppe grasses and shrubs. This is what distinguishes the Dolgiye Mountains from other parts of the Urals.
You can get to the Dolgiye Mountains by car or by regular bus from Orenburg or Mednogorsk. From the 135th km of the Orenburg – Orsk highway to the foothills of the Dolgiye Mountains, it is about one hour’s walk.
To see the green “alpine” meadows, it is better to come in May and June. By mid-summer, the grass fades in the sun and turns yellow and orange.
