Unique Baroque Church in the Dubrovitsy Estate

Near the town of Podolsk, on the confluence of the Desna and Pakhra, the Dubrovitsy Estate is located.
It is famous for its Church of the Sign of the Most Holy Mother of God made in the style of European Baroque. This style was not typical for the traditional Russian church architecture.

The Medieval Church Shelled during the Military Exercises

Lutheran church in Gross Engelau was built in the 14th century during the reign of power and financial prosperity of the Teutonic Order. Lutheran church tower was often used as an observation post during military conflicts.
In 1807, the Russian officers observed the battle of Friedland from it. In August 1914, Gross Engelau was again in the thick of things, the tower was used by the military again.

Defense expenditures in Russia are growing every year (about 14-18% of the total expenditure of the budget). In 2012, these costs amounted to about 1865 billion rubles (62 billion USD).
Some of these funds are spent on the purchase of new equipment, weapons, warehousing of the equipment at military bases scattered throughout Russia.

Funny Incident on the Investment Forum “Sochi-2013”

Important guests, traffic jams, big money… Investment Forum “Sochi-2013” was basically the same as all the previous ones. But this time was not without incident.
Krasnodar region prepared the pavilion with 1,800 projects, for example, the F1 track. Among the projects was the ski resort Lagonaki. At first glance, nothing out of the ordinary was noticed: the snow-capped peaks, green fir-trees, etc. But photographers found something else…

The Russian Imperial Army, Part 1

The Russian Imperial Army was the land army of the Russian Empire. Since the second half of the 19th century, the army was formed on the basis of conscription.
The entire male population was subject to compulsory military service from the age of 21. The term of active service in the land army was 6 years, in the Navy – 7 years.

Cherkessk, founded in 1825, is the capital of Karachay-Cherkessia Republic located in the North Caucasus. It has a favorable geographical position, standing on the right bank of the Kuban River.
