In the vast expanses of Russia, you can find almost everything – amazingly beautiful natural sites and diverse works of human hands.
Probably the strangest of these creations are bizarre and often creepy self-made toys standing in the open air almost anywhere where people live.
It has become a tradition coming from the times of the Soviet Union. The authorities often don’t pay much attention to beautification of towns and villages and the locals take matters into their own hands using the materials at hand and unbridled imagination. Photos by: Sergey Anashkevitch.
Swans made of tires are probably the most famous and popular self-made outdoor toys in Russia.

Bees with snouts?
The sun.
Probably it is a piglet.
Looking like a weird caterpillar with legs.
Something from another world.
The main characters of the famous Soviet cartoon “Nu pogodi!” – a wolf and a hare.
And here is a cartoon character of our time – Shrek.
The characters of the Russian animated series “Smeshariki”.
Donkey with a cart.
And again the characters of another Soviet cartoon – a turtle and a lion cub.
Gingerbread Man and the Fox.
The characters of one the most popular modern Russian cartoon series “Masha and the Bear”.
The one-legged pirate Long John Silver from Treasure Island – a novel by Robert Louis Stevenson.
Cats made of tires.
Creepy mouse.
And this is just the tip of the iceberg – people’s imagination is boundless especially when funds are limited.
