“Vitoslavlitsy” is an open-air museum of folk wooden architecture located on the shore of Lake Myachino a few kilometers south of Veliky Novgorod, near the St. George’s (Yuriev) Monastery. The name “Vitoslavlitsy” comes from the village of Vitoslavlitsy, which existed here from the beginning of the 12th to the 18th centuries.

The museum was opened on May 16, 1967. The exhibition includes the oldest Russian wooden architectural monuments of the 16th century, as well as residential and outbuildings of the 18th-19th centuries. Vitoslavlitsy Museum on Google Maps. Photos by: Stanislav Konstantinov.

Veliky Novgorod Kremlin

Veliky Novgorod, one of the oldest cities in Russia, is located in the north-west of the European part of the country. The main attraction of the city is the preserved complex of its medieval fortifications – the Novgorod Kremlin.

The Episcopal Chamber (Chamber of Facets) is an architectural monument of the 15th century located in the territory of the ancient fortress (Kremlin) in Veliky Novgorod.

This is one of the oldest surviving civic buildings in Russia included in the UNESCO World Heritage list, along with other historical buildings of Novgorod the Great.

Veliky Novgorod is a city located in the northwest of Russia, the administrative center of Novgorod Oblast. It is one of the oldest and most famous cities of Russia which celebrated its 1150th anniversary in 2009.

Ancient kremlin of Velikiy Novgorod

A lot of monuments of ancient architecture were preserved in Velikiy Novgorod. The oldest of them is St. Sophia Cathedral, which construction started in 1045.

The cathedral is located inside the Kremlin – the historic center of the city (the present day walls were erected in the 15th century). The photos were captured by Petr Ushanov.
