May 1 is a holiday in many countries around the world and is known as Labor and Spring Day in present Russia. In the USSR it was celebrated as International Workers Day.
May 1, 1886, socialist, communist and anarchist organizations in the U.S. and Canada staged a series of rallies and demonstrations. May 4, 1886, six people were killed when the police broke up one of these demonstrations in Chicago.

The celebrations of the Navy Day in Vladivostok

Day of the Navy is a memorable day in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. It is celebrated annually, on the last Sunday of July. The Navy Day is celebrated with military parades, military and sporting events, holiday concerts, all kinds of themed contests and quizzes.
July 29, Vladivostok, the headquarters of the Russian Pacific Fleet, traditionally held the celebrations of the Navy Day. The main part of the celebration was held in the Amur Bay. Here are the photos of the celebrations taken during the naval parade. Photos by Smit_Smitty

The Day of Russia is celebrated every year since 1992 on the day when the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the RSFSR (the name of Russia in the USSR) was adopted – June 12. On the same day, in 1991, the first elections of the president of the RSFSR were held. Boris Yeltsin, the first president of Russia, won the election.
The relation for this holiday in Russia is ambiguous. Some believe it was a negative event that hastened the collapse of the USSR. Also it should be mentioned that the majority of people in Russia don’t even know what this day is about, they just enjoy additional day off.

This day reminds of all those who died in battles, were captured and died of hunger and deprivation. People grieve for all those who gave their lives to fulfill the duty of defending the Motherland. Eternal memory to the fallen heroes.

Russia is celebrating its Independence Day

June 12 is a very important date in modern Russian history. The Declaration of Russia’s sovereignty was adopted June 12, 1990. First presidential election was held a year later, June 12, 1991. The holiday received state status in 1994. At first it was known as Russia’s Independence Day. Since 2002 it is called the Day of Russia.
