It borders on Chelyabinsk, Sverdlovsk and Tyumen regions and republic of Kazakhstan.These factors favour the development of wide of domestic and inter-regional connections, use of the Urals' metal, Siberian oil and gas, Siberian and Kazakh coals, other minerals.

The main natural treasure is the richest soils. There are three zones in the region. The Southern districts are ploughed virgin steppe soils, the Central part is the typical forest steppe, and the North is the edge of the taiga.

Population: Population of the region is more than 1,100,000.

Economy: Kurgan region plays an important role in the Russian economy. The region has steady economical connections with many regions of Russia and foreign countries.

Along with the developed machine building industry, the region is the largest agricultural producer of the Ural Federal District. This is the main peculiarity of the Transurals.

After the economic crisis of the middle of the 90-ies, one can notice stabilization in the regional economics and signs of a steady growth in 1999 and especially in 2000.

Administrative division: Kurgansk region is divided into 23 districts, 2 towns of the regional submission, 7 towns of district submission, 6 town settlements, 398 villages.

Centre of the region is the town of Kurgan. It was founded in 1782. Distance to Moscow is 1,973 km.
