Sergey Mikhaylovich Prokudin-Gorsky (1863-1944) was a Russian photographer, chemist, and inventor, who made a significant contribution to the development of photography and cinematography and was a pioneer of color photography in Russia.

In 1909-1916, Prokudin-Gorsky traveled a large part of the Russian Empire, photographing ancient churches, monasteries, factories, towns, villages, and a variety of domestic scenes.

Majestic churches of Tambov in spring

Late spring is one of the best times of the year to visit Russia – the weather is already warm, streets has been cleaned after winter, and you are surrounded by greenery and flowers.

The amazing beauty of Lake Akkem

Akkem is a lake situated in Altai mountains, at the foot of the northern slope of Mount Belukha, in the territory of Ust-Koksinsky district of the Altai Republic. Ak-kem means “white water” in the Altai language.

The lake, elongated from north to south, is fed by melt water of Akkem glacier. The length of the lake is 1,350 meters, the width – 610 m., the average depth – 7.8 m. Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug from above

Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug or simply Yugra is located in the heart of Russia – in the north of Western Siberia. It is the main oil and natural gas region of the country and one of the largest oil producing regions in the world (about 60% of Russian oil).

Yugra climate is equivalent to the climate of the Far North. This region is the native place of indigenous peoples of the Khanty and Mansi. Photos by: Slava Stepanov.

The Museum-Reserve Peterhof is a monument of world architecture and palace-park art located on the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland in the town of Peterhof in Petrodvorets district of St. Petersburg.
